Michigan CPL Class
I have been teaching Michigan CPL students since 2016, and my goal in every class is simple: you leave knowing how to handle a pistol safely, understanding the law, and confident about what you would do in a real situation. I demonstrate first, then you do it, and no question is a dumb question. Class sizes stay small, and I am beside you at the range the whole time.

What the day looks like
Class starts promptly at 9:00 AM in the Livonia classroom. The morning covers the fundamentals: the universal safety rules, how revolvers and semi-automatics work, clearing and loading, ammunition, and choosing a handgun that fits you. From there we move into defensive shooting fundamentals, grip, stance, sight picture and trigger control, with plenty of dry practice before anyone touches live ammunition.
After lunch we cover the legal side in detail: the legal use of force in Michigan, reasonable force versus deadly force, defending your home, pistol free zones, reciprocity, what to do during a traffic stop while carrying, and the phone calls and statements that follow a self-defense incident. Then the class goes to the range for the live fire qualification, about three hours with an instructor right next to you.
You leave with your Certificate of Completion the same day and a clear checklist for your county CPL application.
Common questions
Do I need any experience?
No. Most of my students are new to handguns and many are shooting for the first time. You go at your own pace with an instructor beside you.
Do I need my own gun?
No. Bring your pistol and ammunition if you have them. If you do not, a loaner handgun is available on class day and rental ammunition is about $20.
Is this class recognized by the State of Michigan?
Yes. This is the US Concealed Carry Association Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals course, which the State of Michigan recognizes for the CPL. It runs about 8 hours including roughly 3 hours of range time.
Is this class available in Spanish?
Yes. Jaime also teaches this same class fully in Spanish on separate dates. Look for the “En Espanol” classes on the class list.
What happens after class?
You leave with your certificate the same day. Take it to your county clerk with the $115 application fee, submit your fingerprints, and your license arrives in the mail.
What if I cannot make it?
Reply to your booking confirmation email at least 48 hours before class and we will move you to another date.
